GM Couchworks ERP System
Project information
- Category: Web App
- Client: GM Couchworks
- Project date: 2022-2023
Background
GM Coachwork started out building minibus conversions in the late 1980s, driven by a desire to make transport easier for wheelchair users. Over 30 years later, thousands of people use a GM Coachwork adapted vehicle every day to get more out of life.
Problem
The GM Couchworks company needs a comprehensive corporate management system spanning all operations in order to boost productivity in response to the escalating consumer expectations.
Research
To comprehend the project's needs, we conduct a thorough business study and collect user and company needs. We were able to provide the finest strategy for achieving the business goals by analysing the demands and skills. Along with the corporate objectives, we strove to be the users' advocates by concentrating on their demands.
Goals
- - Increase productivity
- - Transparent layout what is easy to use
- - Keep so many data on screen, what possible
- - Screensize 1280px and above
- - Keep users happy
- - Informed decision making
Ideating and Wireframing
We had to define what users can do with the system. It was vital to list the steps and emphasise the most important or typical activities. The navigation and information architecture have to be built as well. We must determine the best way to arrange the data so that consumers can find it quickly. We also wanted to establish a hierarchical structure that matched the logical categorization.
Based on our ideas we created various number and version of wireframes in Axure. We tested it with managers, end-users to find the best ideas, solutions. Our mindset has been focused during the process what can be the best for the users.
High-Fidelity versions and Delivery
Due to the size and complexity of the project, not all screens have been prototyped. We selected the most important key-screens and designed the appearance for them. In addition, we created an assets library for developers, from which developers could easily take over and build the appropriate element. If a problem arose with the design application area during development, we prepared that page or part of the page separately for the developers. We never left the developers alone, we implemented the basic design using HTML/CSS/SASS. During the project, we followed the modifications and helped the developers if they got stuck with the design integration.
Technical Limitation
The technical considerations, such as the size of the database, the number of data points that must be displayed simultaneously, and the most crucial pieces of database information, shouldn't be overlooked while designing the system. Although it worked on tablets as well, we had to optimise the screens for the desktop computers used by the personnel.
Outcome
The new system for GM Couchworks haven't been rolled out when I left the project, however we received lot of positive feedback during the test period.
